Uncharted memories of yesteryear heroes

Now I have always love adventure stories that tells of some sort of mystical treasure or some lost world to be uncovered filled with dangers and beauty. Indiana Jones and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle lost world was the perfect example to capture those very feelings of excitement and sheer adrenaline pumping action but over the years many movies like the most recent Indiana Jones sequel or games has failed to do so.

Hearing about Uncharted : Drake fortune, I was not really thrilled at the prospects of it and reading most of the reviews, I thought it was an exact replica of Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider. Looking at Naughty Dogs (the company which has brought the humorous and successful Crash Bandicoot series) history did give me some hope. I will be honest after playing Uncharted for three days, this game does justice and improves in every way on the movies as well as games on this genre.

Uncharted begins as you play Nathan Drake an independent adventurer or treasure hunter with a wiry sense of humor filled with B grade horror movie one liners (GREAT MEMORIES EVIL DEAD SERIES) and so far is a much more interesting and intriguing character than Indiana Jones or Lara Croft. Drake is looking for the lost treasure of El Dorado left by following clues left behind by his supposed ancestor Sir Francis Drake with the help of Victor Sullivan aka "Sully" and journalist Elena fisher. Although the plot can be somewhat predictable, the witty dialogue and intense action sequence which is done so well by the developers makes this an unique experience fill with humor and adrenaline pumping action. Graphic wise, the environment are something to look at with extensive detail on the lush jungle environment and the explosions.

Nathan is not the most stylish character compared to maybe Lara Croft or Alex Mercer (Prototype) with his muddy gray shirt and jeans but his reaction to his surroundings or situation has definitely been put into much detail by the developers. He'll stumbled as he walks on uneven terrain, flail his arms spastically during a big jump and open his eyes wide when a grenade lands near his feet . The voice acting is also top notch and there is honestly very few games with that capabilities. Voice actor Nolan North does an impressive job in voice acting for Drake and the cast needs a pat in the back for an impressive job. Drake comments when a grenade lands near or in an argument with Elena is hilarious, giving more color to the character and the situation.

One of the best looking facial animation as well as voice acting during cut scenes and during game makes it all the more real. With that the only flaws come down to the simple puzzles and plat forming. It is way too easy. Drake is able to catch any ledges and the puzzles are easily completed with Drake's notebook. In conclusion, Uncharted elements is what the Indiana Jones genre needs and indeed brings uncharted memories to yesteryear heroes.
